I want to thank you for visiting my website and for the time you are taking to meet with me in this space.
In the more than 2 and a half decades I've been incarcerated the "public square" has shifted from the center of town to the internet. I have gotten into this space in hopes of being heard by as many people as possible. It's my desire that while you are in this space you will engage with me, get to know me and take an interest in me and my circumstances. I'd like you to ask why I've been incarcerated for so long and to consider helping me in my efforts to find restorative justice. As I'm hoping to be heard, I'm also hoping YOU will be heard in support of my freedom. You can voice your support for my release by signing my change.org. Every signature says, "I think Jeffrey Shortal has served enough time and I support his release from prison." We thank you for being heard in this way.
I'm also asking my friends and family to write a short letter to the Governor of Virginia in support of my freedom. Each letter will be posted and hopefully read by the Governor or someone who knows the Governor who had the power to commute my sentence. You can be loudly heard in each letter that is written.
I am also accepting donations from those who have the financial ability help me this way. The fact of the matter is it's extremely expensive to right a wrong in our legal system in this day and age. If you can afford to donate money, I pledge EVERY dollar received will be used ONLY for costs and expenses directly related to my freedom. We aim to be completely transparent with any and all donations that are received. You will be able to follow on this website every dollar that is received and how it's spent. It's important to myself and those helping me with this website to be good stewards of your donations. Any money we receive that isn't used for an expense related to my freedom will be donated to a worthy charity that will be named in this space.
